The Protek Ranger gasket employs a pressure-assisted sealing geometry that allows it to achieve tight, reliable sealing at significantly lower bolt loads than conventional gasket designs. Its inside diameter is machined to align precisely with the flange bore, minimizing flow disturbance.
Protek Ranger is a high-integrity isolation and sealing gasket engineered for demanding, high‑consequence applications. It has an established performance history in aggressive and critical services and is suitable for use in pressure classes up to and including ANSI 2500 and API 10,000. The design targets installations where loss of containment or electrical isolation is unacceptable.
The gasket uses a spring‑energized PTFE sealing element (or optional elastomeric seal) captured within an isolating laminate that is permanently bonded to a robust metallic core. This pressure‑assisted sealing geometry allows the Protek Ranger to achieve tight, reliable sealing at substantially lower bolt loads than many conventional gasket styles. The bore of the gasket is closely matched to the flange inside diameter to help minimize turbulence and mitigate flange face erosion or corrosion. For maintenance efficiency, the sealing elements can be replaced while the primary retainer is reused, helping reduce long‑term operating cost.
The design also incorporates replaceable sealing elements housed within a reusable retainer, simplifying maintenance and lowering lifecycle cost. These characteristics reduce the risk of flange face erosion and corrosion.
Protek Ranger isolation gaskets are suited for a range of critical equipment connections where both sealing performance and electrical isolation are required. Typical uses include process, utility, and instrumentation flanges in upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation
Type E is a full-face isolation gasket, matching the flange outside diameter and incorporating accurately machined bolt holes. This configuration promotes positive gasket alignment during installation and helps prevent conductive debris from bridging across the flange faces. Type E gaskets are supplied in plain phenolic or Nitrile-coated phenolic, as well as various high-temperature formulations, with a typical nominal thickness of 1/8 in.
Type F isolation gaskets are sized to seal only on the raised-face area of the flange. Because bolt holes are omitted, the gasket outside diameter is slightly smaller than the bolt-circle inside diameter, which automatically centers the gasket during assembly. Type F designs are available in the same material options as Type E and are also commonly furnished in a 1/8 in nominal thickness
Type D isolation gaskets are engineered to locate directly within the ring groove of ring-type-joint flanges. They are produced from a medium-weave, fabric-reinforced phenolic laminate and dimensioned to ANSI standards, with options for both oval and octagonal configurations. High-pressure BX-style versions are also offered with working pressures up to 15,000 psi.
